Hobbed Products

Hobbing is a process that we have used at SMF for many decades. Hobbing is the most extreme form of cold-forming and employs very high pressures. The result is a very strong product, with a much higher resistance to wear than that of products machined by other methods. The downside of this type of machining is its reduced dimensional accuracy. As the process induces flow in the material, dimensional consistency is harder to achieve and higher tolerances (in the 0.1 mm range) are required.
